Wow the moment I heard a sample of this song I was passionately driven to find the original version. Thanks to youtube and some elbow grease I was able to back track and find the original composers of this Brazilian bossa nova classic. The version posted below happens to be my favorite version, combining both the original Portuguese version (composed and written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes) and the English equivalent (written by Norman Gimbel). To be succinct, this track offers the best of both worlds!

Ever since "crossing" over into a fraternity, I've found myself up and down all over Los Angeles County. From South Gate to Downey, Compton, Huntington Park and even South Central. I've been able to see every day life through a different lens. Not everyone shares a similar upbringing as myself, we all come different socioeconomic backgrounds. We have different political views, religious beliefs and even belong to different ethnic cultures. Some embrace it while others challenge it, but we're all a unique result of our upbringing and our very response to it.

I must say even though I choose not to partake in fraternity activities anymore as I've grown to be quite disilusioned and a bit jaded by the whole thing, I can't help but to be thankful for the doorway it has opened for me. From partying, to language spoken, music, food, culture and customs, I've seen a lot of shadier activities take place in my own back yard of northern Orange County. Don't belive eveything you hear or read, there are always to sides to every story. We all experience hardships and triumps, perhaps the greatest lesson learned is that we're all not quite as different as we would like to believe.

In conclusion here's a great song by group called "The Funkdoobiest" a early 90s Latino hip hop group from the city if South Gate. I'm very intrigued by small glimpses into the past of places that I frequent today. Funkdoobiest definitely holds it down right up there with other famous acts from the LA urban suburb including Cypress Hill and Mellow Man Ace.

Sorry for the lack of updates and thereof I've been super busy as of late. I just started my third spring semester at The Beach, pretty hard to believe it's already been three years... As I type this I'm watching the Metrix for the first time on AMC. Yes I know I'm incredibly late... a good decade late haha. As I finish this film, which I must say has already proven to have gripped my attention and imagination I want to leave you all with an interesting piece enititled "Argyle Crocodile" by Phil Jones.

Denim done right! I don't usually post about fashion and or clothing too often, but Brooklyn's Epaulet definitely made me take a double look. Simply put these jeans look amazing. Coming in their "Smith" fit, a tapered-straight leg fit and cut from fabric imported directly from the Kurabo Mill in Osaka, Japan. Not to mention the fact that the raw selvedge denim is entirely stitched and sewn in Los Angeles it's guaranteed to turn heads.

These jeans are currently avaiIable at select dealers, I have yet to try on a pair but I think I just found my next pair of jawns.

Very interesting read over at IVY-STYLE about the Miyuki-zoku, whom were the first set of Japanese youth to emulate the fashion/dress of collegiate American Ivy League students.

"Starting in 1945, Japanese authorities generally viewed all Western youth fashion as a delinquent subculture. Despite looking relatively conservative in style compared to the other biker gangs and greasy-haired rebels, the Miyuki-zoku were still caught up in this delinquent narrative. In fact, they were actually the first middle-class youth consumers buying things under the direction of the mainstream media. It was Japanese society that was simply not ready for the idea that youth fashion could be part of the marketplace."

In other news I must say I was definitely pleased to come across this gem. Stussy's been doing it for years as one of the founding father's of "street wear" and I must admit they are showing no signs of slowing down.

I must say I was definitely caught off guard by this music video. I would love to find out who was in charge of the video's artistic direction, simply put it's very good.
